MORRIS IMMERSIONS
Morris Academy is one of the only leading academies in the Basque Country to offer English immersion programs to multiple locations. These programs are designed to provide students with a once-in-a-lifetime experience: to experience life with a sweet and hospitable family in an English-speaking country, immerse in English/ the local culture, and make everlasting memories.
OVERVIEW
We offer a range of programs that cater to a variety of needs. Some programs are great for younger children aged 11-13, while others are better suited for teenagers. However, the primary goal of all programs is the same: total immersion in English.
SUMMER IMMERSIONS

UTAH, USA
- Duration: 1 full month (end of June – end of July)
- Area: Provo, Utah
- Age: 14 – 17 years old
- Monitors/ coordinators on-site 24/7
The Morris Academy Utah program is an English immersion program in which each student lives with an American host family and experiences their day-to-day life, 24/7, for an entire month. Only one student per host family is allowed in order to maximize English immersion.
This is not a program where students attend English classes all day and interact minimally with their host family. They spend all day, every day with their family.
Over the course of this program, students will have the opportunity to build strong friendships with the host family and their children, take part in everyday American summer activities, and immerse in the English language and American culture.
Morris Academy has been taking students to Utah for English immersion programs every summer for the last 25 years. Over this period of time we have worked extremely hard to establish ourselves as a premier provider of immersion programs to the Basque Country and Spain, whilst simultaneously becoming a trusted name in Utah.
Utah is an amazing destination – especially for teenagers. Families in Utah are both large and young; it is not uncommon for parents to be in their low-mid thirties and have at least 3-6 children. People in Utah are also very active and primarily enjoy doing lots of outdoor activities like camping, hiking, rafting, swimming, and much more.
Most importantly, Utah is extremely safe. Crime rates are extremely low, residents are very well integrated, and the communities in which our students stay are among the highest-rated in terms of socioeconomic factors
All host families are personally handpicked by Morris Academy coordinators and go through a rigorous interview process to ensure they are the very best fit.
We ensure that every host family has at least 1 child that is similar in age and gender to the student who will be staying with them. Most host families have at least 3-4 children, which is very common in Utah. Families in Utah are also extremely hospitable, sweet, and caring.
So why do they decide to host? Our host families choose to host a student from the Basque Country/ Spain primarily because they want their own children to experience different cultures. America is a country with a lot of diversity, and many Americans place extreme importance on their children learning about different cultures. So what better way to do so than to have a foreign teenager live with your family for a month?
Coordinators from Morris Academy (including the founder, Mikel Morris) will provide 1 English lesson a week to students at BYU University.
Otherwise, the activities that are done with the students are up to the discretion of their respective host families.
Typically, students are involved in many activities during their stay in Utah. Some families sign up their children and the student up for summer camps. Others take day trips (or even longer) to popular destinations like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, and others.
However, it’s extremely important for students (and their families alike) to understand that this program is in no way a vacation. Students must show curiosity, interest, and above all, be willing to take advantage of all the time they have to practice their English – irrespective of the number of activities they get to do.
